Human Rights Attorney Tracey Cooley as New Executive Director
Metro Detroit, Michigan April 21, 2021 – Led by survivors and dedicated to the eradication of human trafficking and exploitation, the Sparrow Freedom Project is proud to welcome Human Rights Attorney Tracey Cooley, as its newest executive director.
“Tracey’s mandate is to ensure that the victims and the survivors of human trafficking and exploitation receive the support and resources they require to reclaim their lives,” said Anita Hoepner, Founder and Director of Special Projects, Sparrow Freedom Project.
In 2020, the Sparrow Freedom Project fulfilled more than 300 assistance requests and directly assisted 106 exploited and/or trafficked individuals. “We are just getting started. There are thousands of people who need our support,” said Tracey Cooley, Executive Director, Sparrow Freedom Project. “I was drawn to the Sparrow Freedom Project because the organization is led by survivors and supported by allies. This is an extremely important distinction. Only those that have lived through and survived the trauma of human trafficking are truly equipped to help others facing the same circumstances. The rest of us need to listen, get educated and develop tools to support that process.”
With more than 23 years of experience advocating for those in need, Tracey was the co-founder and senior partner at Kevelighan & Kevelighan, PC. Dedicated to fairness for all, she managed the immigration department with a strong focus on counseling and representing foreign nationals in all capacities, including victims of domestic violence, exploitation, and human trafficking.
Determined to make an impact at the grass roots level, Tracey has held multiple board and volunteer positions in organizations such as Desert Angels, the Junior League of Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills Schools and Rochester Community Schools. Tracey is also considered a Master Global Champion in Diversity and Inclusion and a graduate of the Institute of Healing Racism.
